How to make a transparent image with color removal and manual brushes
For simple product images, logos and stickers, start by removing the background color and refine the edges with a brush. This version uses ordinary image algorithms and manual controls. It does not download or run an AI segmentation model.
Start with a uniform background
A mostly uniform white, blue or other solid background is a good candidate for color sampling. The tool removes matching background connected to image edges. A lower tolerance retains more color differences; a higher tolerance can remove parts of a similarly colored subject.
Sample the background, start conservatively and inspect the result. Color matching cannot reliably separate a busy background, fine hair or a subject close to its background color. Use manual erase and restore for those areas.
Refine the outline and check the subject
Zoom in and use a small brush to remove leftover background. Restore any accidentally erased areas. The checkerboard represents transparent pixels in the preview; transparency is stored in the alpha channel.
Pale fringes can be hard to see on a light backdrop. Check the downloaded image on different background colors, especially around shadows and translucent edges. A single preview background cannot represent every destination.
Export a format with transparency
Choose PNG or transparent WebP. JPEG must flatten transparency onto a color. Changing a filename or exporting an opaque picture as PNG does not remove its background.
Batch images may have different backgrounds and subject colors, so one tolerance setting is not always appropriate. Inspect one first and adjust difficult images individually. Full originals and downloaded results are not stored on the server.
